Dr. Austin Floyd

Dr. Austin Floyd is a vibrant, sagacious, and down-to-earth educational catalyst. He creatively communicates progressive educational truths and offers alternative perspectives to higher education challenges. Dr. Austin earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Public Administration, a Master's Degree in Management and Leadership, and a Doctor of Education degree in Higher Education Leadership. His experience and passion in higher education expands across the past decade as he has held positions in Admissions, Student Life, Student Orientation Services, Strategic Initiatives, Student Conduct, Physical Accessibility and in Student Services at the SC Technical College System, System Office. Dr. Austin is a Certified Online Instructor teaching technical college classes since 2015 and is currently an adjunct professor in Alverno College’s Teaching & Learning in Higher Education doctoral program. Dr. Austin volunteers with youth in his local community to expose them to greater educational opportunities, coordinates and has presented at national and regional conferences to include the National Community College Institute, the NJ Rising Scholars Forum, and the ASPA conference. He was recently awarded the 2022 Palmetto Award from NASPA-South Carolina for being an Outstanding Technical College Professional and is a part of Leadership Columbia’s 50th milestone Class of 2023. Dr. Austin hopes to continue deconstructing higher education ideologies and practices that uphold inequitable structures and support a system that proactively responds to the needs of all students who desire to engage in education. Austin serves on the Board of Directors for Turning Pages SC, an organization committed to improving adult literacy outcomes in the Midlands. He is the father of a “seemingly cool” kid named Ethan and strives to always show up authentically and integrally in every space he engages.
